In backgammon, the board means the entire playing surface. A backgammon board consists of 24 narrow triangles (points). They alternate in colors (usually red and black), and they are grouped in four quadrants of six triangles.
The backgammon board has four quadrants: both players have a home board (sometimes called inner board), and an outer board. The home and outer boards are separated from each other by a ridge in the center of the board, this is called the bar (or rail, roof). It is worth mentioning that each player’s inner and outer board separately forms a board too. |
